It's so difficult to understand how any human being can justify the killing of mass groups of people. Goldahngen's who's own father survived the Jewish holocaust, points out that extreme cruelty is at the heart of genocide. Though you hear time and time again soldiers say they were just doing their job or following orders, but if that were true, why is there always evidence of torture, rape and unimaginable suffering before killing them.

The victims are thought of as subhumans, thus making it okay to kill them. People who chose to kill another human being, basically don't view them as humans and its starts years before the actual events.

Contrary to popular belief, genocide doesn't happen spontaneously. Many times years of propaganda, describing and depicting a particular group as a threat, as a danger to their way of life, etc. Examples of this are Serbia, Nazi Germany and Rwanda. Add to the mix the feeling that they are untouchable and nothing can stop them.

Genocide's goal is to eliminate a group of people. Glodhagen says we should remain vigilant and be aware of any elimination policies, before the mention of killing even starts.

The Armenian Genocide by the Turks, during WWI are yet to be recognize, though France has now criminalized the denial of said genocide, which has enfudiared the Turks - Tuff!

Cuban Exiles Put on Fireworks Show Near Havana

HAVANA (AP) — A coalition of Cuban exiles sailed south from Florida on Friday to protest the island's human rights record with a nighttime fireworks display, eliciting a stern rebuke from Havana officials who called it an affront to national sovereignty.

Organizers said their boats would anchor a little more than 12 miles (19 kilometers) from the Cuban capital, just outside Cuba's territorial waters, and by early evening multicolored explosions could be seen intermittently far off on the horizon from Havana.

Only a handful of people were along the Malecon oceanside promenade amid a steady wind and sporadic rain. Almost entirely missing were the masses of young Cubans who gather to socialize on a normal Friday night.

When an Associated Press crew tried to interview the few who were there, a pro-government crowd of more than 20 people ran across the wide boulevard yelling "American press!" and demanding that a video camera be turned over. Some were holding bottles of alcohol and appeared to have been drinking.

The journalists identified themselves as accredited members of the press with the right to work in Cuba. One cameraman was punched in the face, another's thumb was sprained and a video camera was broken in the melee before the crew managed to leave the scene.

Exile organizers in Miami insisted the 18th protest flotilla over the years would be peaceful and was not a provocation, though they said they were trying to coordinate the protest with actions by dissidents on the island. Havana, October 17, 2011- Six agents from Cuban State Security arrested independent journalist Carlos Rios Otero at his home at 5:30 pm on Friday the 14th.

Rios Otero, who is a member of Independent Press Agency Hablemos Press, had published an article the day before detailing the critical condition of Lady in White Laura Pollan and other cases of Ladies in White who became ill after being injected during acts of repression.

According to the journalist, the agents took him to the Aguilera police station in Lawton, Havana, where he was constantly threatened until after midnight.

His arrest took place two hours before the announcement of Laura Pollan's death, at the same time when it became evident that many of the cell phones of peaceful opposition members had been cut off.

At the home of the journalist at Correa #163, Santos Suarez, a patrol car appeared with two uniformed police officers and two plainclothes agents of State Security. Another two agents in civilian clothes arrived on motorcycles. One said to Rios: "Carlos, we need to talk."

In his articles for Hablemos Press, one on September 12th "IPK Denounces Medical Power," and on October 28th, "Lethal Vaccinations against the Cuban Dissidence," Rios explored the possible relationship between the grave illness of Laura Pollan and the puncture inflicted on her at the last attack she suffered.

He cited previous instances, such as the other Ladies in White who had been injected and then suffered dizzy spells, blurry vision, fever, loss of equilibrium, diarrhea, nausea, cramps, irregular menstrual cycles with heavy bleeding, and other symptoms attributable to bacterial infection or reactions to toxic substances.

Rios said: "They placed me in the back seat between two plainclothes agents and with the two motorcycles leading a caravan that appeared to me as if I were the president of the republic. In the Aguilera station at a section they call "The Pit," they interrogated me and the four agents threatened me regarding signs that had appeared in the streets with the word "NO." I belong to the "NO" campaign. They threatened me with prison for the signs, calling it a "crime of propaganda for the enemy," but I refused to sign an "admission." They interrogated me about my friends and about a repair done on my house - remember that Dr. Darsi Ferrer was imprisoned on the pretext of the materials used in the repair of his house. They avoided talking about my articles dealing with the health of Laura Pollan and the puncture she suffered on her forearm during the last act of repression carried out by them and their paramilitary "Rapid Response Brigades." After releasing me around midnight, one said, 'Laura has died.'"

Carlos Rios believes that the sudden interest in him has nothing to do with the signs on the streets, but with the death of Laura Pollan while he writes of how the government's "battle of ideas" includes suspicious injections.

According to family members, Lady in White and photo journalist for Hablemos Press, Sandra Guerra, was "sequestered by State Security agents on Saturday morning when she was traveling to Havana to attend the funeral for Pollan."

Laura Pollan Toledo was one of the cofounders of the Cuban opposition movement known as Las Damas de Blanco (Ladies in White). This group arose spontaneously after the arrests in Cuba's Black Spring, of 75 opponents to the regime of Fidel Castro. Women, wives, mothers, sisters and other female relatives of these peaceful men came together to demand their immediate release.

Laura is the wife of independent journalist and prisoner of conscience Héctor Maseda Gutiérrez, imprisoned in the 2003 crackdown and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. She was a Professor of Spanish and literature, she worked until May 2004 when she left to fight for her husband's unjust imprisonment.

Laura has spoken out many times, explaining to the international community the repression prevailing in Cuba and denounced the inhuman conditions suffered by prisoners of conscience, deported to prisons far from their families, not receiving proper medical care and to be victims of cruel and degrading treatment.

The home of Laura is one of the meeting places of the Ladies in White. State Security knows this , so more than once Laura has found among her things hidden microphones. But she does not mind, in these five years of struggle for freedom for her husband and all Cuban prisoners of conscience, she and the other ladies have proved to be too brave to be intimidated with threats.

A courageous attitude has led them to confront a host of difficult situations. Insults, threats and smear campaigns released by the Cuban government made every day in their lives. On April 21, 2008, the world witnessed the violent eviction of a group of ladies who were protesting peacefully in the Revolution Square in Havana. Among them was Laura.

As a member of Las Damas de Blanco, Laura along with the other Ladies in White was honored with the European Parliament's Sakharov Prize for Human Rights in 2005, and in 2006 the prize from Human Rights First.

She contracted a viral infection that affected her lungs and was admitted to the Hospital "Calixto García" in Havana in were she contracted, a second virus that affected her kidneys and she also contracted dengue fever and died on Friday 14 October 2011 in the evening, leaving a deep emptiness and pain in the Cuban community and all lovers of freedom and democracy.

I should have posted here when I received the knews of Laura Pollan death, but I felt like the wind was just beat out of me. I know that things like this have been happening in Cuba since the Castro's came to power, but it never stops being shocking. Laura Pollan, president of "The Ladies in White", was one of the most important leaders that the dissidents had and now she is gone and though she lives in our hearts, this sad news is very difficult for us.

She marched for the freedom of Cuba among the blows and shoves of the State sponsored mobs, never bowing her head and even while being injured by the violence, she marched on.

She and other dissidents had reported, being poked with needles by members of these mobs, so the possibility that she was poisoned or infected with a biological agent is very real. The Castro's are well documented on these methods of destroying the opposition in the style of the former Soviet Union!

She was able to accomplish what no one in 5 decades was able to acomplish. The Castro Regime feared her.

Her leadership and her fearless confrontations with the Castro mobs, made us all proud and now she is gone, but not forgotten. Bertha Soler, will now take her place.

HAVANA – The remains of Cuban political prisoner Orlando Zapata were exhumed Tuesday at the request of his family, who plan to cremate his body and take the ashes to the United States.

Zapata’s mother, Reina Luisa Tamayo, told Efe by telephone from the eastern town of Banes that she and three of her late son’s colleagues witnessed the exhumation.

“It has been a very tough, very tough moment, but we have endured,” she said, stressing that authorities have fully complied with her wishes.

These images licked to the internet, paint a gruesome picture of what is the Cuban experience. You would expect to see images like these in the Jewish holocaust archives, but this is not Nazi Germany, this is Cuba, January 2010.

Dozens of psychiatric patients perished inside the walls of the hospital known as Mazorra in Havana city, Cuba. They died from starvation and hypothermia. The people entrusted to care for them stole the food, blankets and mattresses that were supposed to be used for the patients. The bodies had signs of severe neglect, bruises and torture.

I can remember the fear we all had at the mere mention of this hospital. It is know to the average Cuban as a place of torture used by the Castro Regime to persuade agitators and contra revolutionaries. Opening these doors is opening the gates of hell. Someone in my own family was sent there, just for speaking out against the regime.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

Cuban Dissident Guillermo Fariñas, 100 Days on Hunger Strike

While awaiting the liberation of the political prisoners in poor health, Cuban dissident Guillermo Fariñas has now been on hunger strike for over 100 days.

"I have always said that I'm skeptical of what the Cuban authorities will do". Who could blame him-the Cuban Government could care less about the well being of the prisoners. Fariñas thinks that they are just being used as pieces on a chess game.

He has said that he will abandoned the hunger strike if at least a dozen or so of the most ill are freed and a plan is set into motion to free the remaining prisoners. His only regret is not starting the strike when Zapata was still alive.

Carmen Julia Guerra, a Cuban Diplomat in Oslo, bit Alexandra Joner's hand. The victim is a young Norwegian artist who was participating and filming across the street from the Cuban embassy in Oslo. In the video you can see clearly how the diplomat walks across the street towards Alexandra and then she proceeds to insult her and then bites her hand.

Mexico's President is Allowed to Criticize Arizona Immigration Law

Today I woke up to a disgraceful display of disrespect to US sovereignty. Felipe Calderon, the president of Mexico gives a lecture about immigration before a joint session of Congress. He said that the Arizona immigration law will use racial profiling and the wienies in Congress gave him a standing ovation, when in reality it is Mexico who racially profiles, but not one had the guts to get up and walk out.

Interesting enough last night during an interview on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, President Calderon when asked if people could live in Mexico illegally, his answer was no and when asked if Mexican police routinely ask for papers from people they deemed illegal, his answer was yes-what a hypocrite-either that or he is not very bright, because he debacled his whole argument!!

"Immigration Law in Mexico" A foreigner is required to be:

In Mexico legally;
Have the means to sustain themselves economically;
Not destined to be burdens on society;
Of economic and social benefit to society;
Of good character and have no criminal records; and
Contributors to the general well being of the nation.

"The law also ensures that:

Authorities have a record of each foreign visitor;
Foreign visitors do not violate their visa status;
Foreign visitors are banned from interfering in the country's internal politics;
Foreign visitors who enter under false pretenses are imprisoned or deported;
Foreign visitors violating the terms of their entry are imprisoned or deported;
Those who aid in illegal immigration will be sent to prison."

"Mexico welcomes only foreigners who will be useful to Mexican society:

Foreigners are admitted into Mexico "according to their possibilities of
contributing to national progress." (Article 32)
Immigration officials must 'ensure' that 'immigrants will be useful elements for the country and that they have the necessary funds for their sustenance' and for their dependents. (Article 34)
Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets 'the equilibrium of the national demographics,' when foreigners are deemed detrimental to 'economic or national interests,' when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and
when 'they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy.' (Article 37)
The Secretary of Governance may 'suspend or prohibit the admission of foreigners when he determines it to be in the national interest.' (Article 38)
Mexican authorities must keep track of every single person in the country:
Federal, local and municipal police must cooperate with federal immigration authorities upon request, i.e., to assist in the arrests of illegal immigrants. (Article 73)
A National Population Registry keeps track of 'every single individual who comprises the population of the country,' and verifies each individual's identity. (Articles 85 and 86)
A national Catalog of Foreigners tracks foreign tourists and immigrants (Article 87), and assigns each individual with a unique tracking number (Article 91).
Foreigners with fake papers, or who enter the country under false pretenses, may be imprisoned:

Foreigners with fake immigration papers may be fined or imprisoned. (Article 116)
Foreigners who sign government documents 'with a signature that is false or different from that which he normally uses' are subject to fine and imprisonment. (Article 116)
Foreigners who fail to obey the rules will be fined, deported, and/or imprisoned as felons:

Foreigners who fail to obey a deportation order are to be punished. (Article 117)
Foreigners who are deported from Mexico and attempt to re-enter the country without authorization can be imprisoned for up to 10 years. (Article 118)
Foreigners who violate the terms of their visa may be sentenced to up to six years in prison (Articles 119, 120 and 121). Foreigners who misrepresent the terms of their visa while in Mexico - such as working with out a permit - can also be imprisoned.
Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony. The General Law on Population says,
A penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally. (Article 123)
Foreigners with legal immigration problems may be deported from Mexico instead of being imprisoned. (Article 125)
Foreigners who 'attempt against national sovereignty or security' will be deported. (Article 126)
Mexicans who help illegal aliens enter the country are themselves considered criminals under the law.
A Mexican who marries a foreigner with the sole objective of helping the foreigner live in the country is subject to up to five years in prison. (Article 127)
Shipping and airline companies that bring undocumented foreigners into Mexico will be fined. (Article 132)"

Cuban Independence Day

All over the world exiled Cubans celebrate Independence Day. Since the communists came to power over 50 years ago, this day is not officially celebrated inside Cuba.

On May 20th 1902, after 30 years of wars against Spain, Cuba won independence.

The Cuban Liberation Army of about 40,000, was several times smaller than the Spanish Army, which numbered more then 200,000 troops. However, superior guerrilla strategy, higher combat morale, excellent command and the general support of the population, enabled the final victory. The Cuban freedom fighters "Mambi fighters", fought with bravery and were known for their exceptional ability to use the machete to charge the enemy. The Spaniards, though cruel and vicious were no match for these brave men and women. I suppose that when you fight for love of country the motivation gives you strength to do anything.

200,000 Cubans died fighting these wars. 400,000 died as a result of the "Reconcentration Policy" that sent thousands of Cubans into concentration camps. In 1896, General Weyler of Spain implemented the first wave.

Weyler had nothing on Hitler who probably learned from this butcher. Under Weyler's policy, the rural population had eight days to move into designated camps located in fortified towns; any person who failed to obey was shot.

The housing in these areas was typically abandoned, decaying, roofless, and virtually uninhabitable. Food was scarce and famine and disease quickly swept through the camps. By 1898, one third of Cuba's population had been forcibly sent into the concentration camps.

As a result of this inhumane policy, many women joined the men in the battlefield.

Correspondent Julian Hawthorne -- son of Nathaniel Hawthorne, author of The Scarlet Letter described the Spaniards as "pitiless."

"Oscar's Cuba" Premieres Today in Miami

"Oscar's Cuba" is the story of Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, a political prisoner who has been called Fidel Castro's number one enemy; the man the Castro brothers fear most.

A medical doctor, Biscet is serving a 25-year prison term, much of it in a tiny solitary confinement cell.

Filmmaker Jordan Allott is an American who told CBS4's Eliott Rodriguez that he didn't know much about Cuba before he started filming his documentary.

"I read about Dr. Biscet and immediately connected with his story," Allott said. "I said, 'Wow if there isn't a movie about him I have to make one so people who are not Cuban will connect with him the same way I did."

Allott snuck into Cuba on two occasions to make the film. He interviewed Biscet's wife, who showed the food she takes him in prison, the bucket he uses to hold bathwater and the toilet paper and other personal items she takes him. Dissidents show how wiretaps are used by the government to spy on them.

The film captures the constant fear Cubans live with.

At one point in the film, Allot approaches a Cuban man on the street and asks, "If I was Cuban and I said I don't like Fidel would I be in jail?" The man responds by saying, "Please don't ask me that."

A man of peace, Dr. Biscet was harassed by pro-government mobs before being put in prison for speaking out against the government. Jailed but not silenced, he continues to send messages from inside prison.

"He's still having an affect even from the dungeons of Castro's prisons and if he gets out he could lead the people to freedom and that is what the Cuban people want," Allot said.

"Oscar's Cuba" is the story the Cuban government does not want you to see.

The Ladies in White were born seven years ago, during the wave of arrests, known as the Dark Spring of 2003, when the mothers, wives, sisters and daughters of the 75 dissidents who were arrested on the spring of 2003, got together to ask for freedom for their family members imprisoned by the Communists.

Every Sunday after attending mass at the Church of Santa Rita, these brave women march down 5ta Avenida in Havana, Cuba. They march for the man who gave it all, because they understood that country is above any ideology and above themselves.

These Mujeres Coraje, (Women of Courage) march in spite of the insults, violence, shoves and abuses they receive at the hands of paramilitary crowds, dresses in civilian clothes. Their only weapons.....their unconditional love for their family members and a gladiola in their hands.

These are the women most feared by the communist regime of Cuba.

Interview - Mother of Cuban Political Prisoner Pedro Luis Boitel

Pedro Luis Boitel died in 1973 while on hunger strike in a Castro Prison. It is said that just like Orlando Zapata Tamayo, his water was taken away. His mother who pleaded to anyone that would listened, could not help him. No one cared to hear her. He was one of 12 documented prisoners who died during a hunger strike.

His tortures never imagined that his death would resonate decades later. His memory is revered by the opposition. In fact a baby that was just assaulted by Cuban police a few weeks ago, when his mother and two others including Jorge Luis Perez Antunez were being arrested, was named after him.

Boitel was allowed to die of hunger and thirst, then his body buried in darkness in an unmarked grave, so that even in death they could humiliate him. To this day acts of civil resistance are performed in front of his tomb and honors are given in his name.

His mother who fought against Batista, and recalls her house being searched often by Bastista's police, lived to see the Castro Revolution devour her own son.

She said that at least with Batista, there was always a loop hole, an open door, but with Castro there was no bargaining. She knew that man like her son could not live long. His cellmates remember a man who retained his dignity till the end.

Pedro Luis Boitel died at a time when even those of us who lived in Cuba, didn't find out what was happening in Castros dungeons.. A time when torture and murder happened in darkness while the world played footsies with a genocidal murderer.

His legacy will be that of a man who never abandoned the cause of freedom even when he was stripped of everything that he held dear. Pedro and so may others will be the ones who history will absolve. Man like Castro will join the ranks of Hitler and Stalin and their name will forever be recalled in shame.

A Revolution betrayed that swallowed our innocence and stained our soil with the blood of so many of our sons and daughters. Those of you who danced with the devil will have your own special place as accomplices to Genocine and torture.

Under a warm Californian sun, Thousands of Cubans and many of our Latin American neighbours and Americans gathered in the name of freedom. I saw Cuban, American, Salvadorian, Mexican, Venezuelans, Honduran flags.

I imagined that our Apostle Marti was watching us proud. All united for the freedom of Cuban political prisoners. Gathered in the name of those who have no freedom of expression, or right to gather to ask for their rights. United for the Ladies in White, so they can continue to march for the freedom of their love ones, without being mistreated or imprisoned.

United in one voice for the world to listen and not be an accomplice to so much violence against a peaceful dissidence and a people that can take no more.

We marched for those we left behind, for the thousands dead at the hands of the Castro dictatorship, for all the mothers who mourn their sons and daughters, for what we lost and for what we hope for. We marched for a better future for future generations.

Sadly, just moments before the schedule speakers arrived, I received a message from Facebook about the critical condition of Guillermo Farina who is on hunger and thirst strike. I remember that shared it with a man who started to cry. Many of us had tears in our eyes during the march and I can't blame them-it's been five decades of waiting for a change that never came.

At the start of the presentation, there was an announcement that they had recieved news from Cuba that Reina Tamayo, mother of murdered political prisoner Orlando Zapata, had been Hacked today, by a mob of Castro sympathizers. There is no honor in torturing a mother in mourning.

Present at the event were Andy Garcia, Perez Hilton, George Lopez, Maria Conchita Alonso, Steven Bower, Huber Matos, among others.

There were scream of down with Fidel, freedom, Zapata lives and in spite of Andy and Conchita's reminders that we could accomplish more in silence, we found difficult to stay quiet. The word silence is not in the Cuban dictionary.

Aproximately at four in the afternoon, we started walking and I have to say it was overcomed by the long line of people, dressed all dressed in white, united by the love of the our country of birth and the admiration of those inside Cuba, who are sacrificing their lives, to leave their children a better future.

Pérez, a member of the Central Opposition Coalition, started his protest March 19 after he was placed in a punishment cell at Pre-tensado prison in Villa Clara. He had earned the ire of his captors after he began shouting slogans in support of the Damas De Blanco, or "Ladies In White," which last week held a series of protest marches demanding the release of Cuban political prisoners.

Guards immediately grabbed Pérez, beat him and threw him in the prison's "hole."

Pérez has been imprisoned since March 5, when he was sentenced to 3 months in jail on a charge "damaging state property."

Cuban Police kept mothers, wifes, and sisters of political prisoners and dissidents from marching this Wednesday to demand the release of their loved ones. They were shoved into a bus as they were attempting to visit Orlando Fundora a dissident who had just started a hunger strike.

The group called "Ladies in White", was formed after what became known as the "Black Spring of 2003", when a vicious crack down of dissent. A total of 75 people were arrested then and given in most cases decades long prison terms for nothing more then disagreeing with the government. 53 dissidents remain in jail and 26 of them are very poor health.

These brave women who carry only gladiolas are no strangers to these types of treatments. It just doesn't seem very smart of the Castro Regime to show it's true colors at a time when the world is watching. Several of them were injured during the act of impunity.

Lets hope they stay safe tomorrow on the 7th anniversary of the "Black Spring".

Orlando Fundora Álvarez, member of the group of 75, from the black spring arrests in 2003, who had been on hunger strike since March 10, has been transported to Alta Habana hospital. This has been confirmed by his son Victoriano Simil Triana.

Cuban political prisoner Eduardo Díaz Fleitas was hospitalized today, suffering the effects of a fast he started to commemorate this week's seventh anniversary of the "black spring" crackdown, according to the online magazine Convivencia's Twitter feed.

Díaz, who in 2003 was sentenced to 21 years in prison, was being treated for dehydration and hypoglycemia.

Late last month and earlier this month, Díaz was one of several political prisoners who went on hunger strike after the death of political prisoner Orlando Zapata Tamayo. They called off the protest after supporters expressed concern about their health.

General, as you must know, as an old soldier, the ties between brothers in arms are relationships that go beyond ideologies and political positions. As should be reflected in the archives of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the undersigned was a combatant in the People's Republic of Angola and had I continued in the military life would now hold the rank of Colonel.

Three colleagues of mine, very close to you, have sent messages to alerting me that you gave the necessary orders to I let me die, following the international outrage for the murder of Orlando Zapata Tamayo and so the hunger strikes by a group of Cubans, will end.

I want to say that I consider myself a true patriot and I recognize that I was only a mercenary, when I was in the service of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics under which I served in Africa. "Raul Castro Gave Relevant Orders to Let me Die"

Guillermo Farinas, Cuban dissident on hunger and thirst strike, said last Friday, that Raúl Castro gave the order to let him die. "I received information last night that Raúl Castro had given the relevant orders to let me die."

Fariñas had been admitted to a hospital in Havana, having lost consciousness. He returned home after receiving nutrition intravenously.

The Spanish government and Carlos Perez, the head of Political Affairs of the Spanish Embassy in Cuba have asked Fariñas to stop the hunger and thirst strike.

The freelance journalist plans to send another letter to Dictator Raul Castro in which he will thank him for the, "honor of letting him die."

Radio Marti Noticias informs that Fariñas has asked dissidents to maintain unity of action and he said that he will remain on hunger strike, inspired by the example set by Orlando Zapapa Tamayo.

Six Cuba political prisoners plan fast to mark "black spring" anniversary

Six Cuban political prisoners this week called on the world to join them in fast and prayer from March 12 to March 31 to mark the seventh anniversary of the "black spring" crackdown, which concluded with their imprisonment.

In a statement, the prisoners say their demonstration is not for themselves but for all of Cuba. Their hope, their faith is that by joining together in common cause and common action, the day of Cuba's freedom will be nearer.

Two Cuban dissidents have been released from jail after completing their prison terms, according to reports posted at Payo Libre:

Deisy Talavera López, a member of the Marta Abreu Feminist Movement, was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison in 2008 on charges of "attacking" and "disrespect" after she posted on the door of her home a poster expressing support for Cuban political prisoner. Talavera, 39, was released from prison on Feb. 26.
Ramón Velázquez Toranzo, an independent journalist, was released Jan. 19, after serving a three-year term for "social dangerousness." Velázquez, 54, was imprisoned after attempting along with his family to walk across Cuba to denounce the Castro dictatorship's human rights record and to show support for the country's political prisoners.

Assassination Attempt on the life of Honduran Reporter Karol Cabrera

The Honduran journalist Karol Cabrera was seriously wounded and her companion Joseph Ochoa an entertainment journalist was killed do to gunshot wounds received in yesterday during an attack which occurred at 7:50 pm, while driving home after a visit to the presidential house where she signed a contract to work on state television 8, National Television of Honduras, to begin airing yesterday.

The journalist had died due to more than 20 bullets in the neck, thorax and abdomen, while Cabrera had at least three bullet wounds in her arms and her right side.

A daughter of Karol Cabrera was killed on 16 December last year.

The attackers fired into the vehicle in which the young pregnant woman traveling with other people, "two of whom were injured," said Orlin Cerrato, police spokesman.

Cabrera leads a program where members criticized the administration of former President Manuel Zelaya and his followers, which has brought threats, as it was reported by the journalist.

Oscar Elias Biscet speaks about Zapata Tamayo and calls the Castro brothers murderers

(Radio Martí) - From the prison "Combinado del Este", in Havana, the prisoner of conscience Oscar Elias Biscet Gonzalez, expressed grief and shock over the death of opposing member Orlando Zapata Tamayo, who he considered a courageous defender of freedom for Cuba.

According Biscet, Zapata embodies the inspiration of a people to claim the fight against the Castro regime.

The peaceful protester, was sentenced in 2003 to twenty-five years behind bars, adding that his "magnanimous act," Zapata was equal to the great heroes of Cuba.

The activist, awarded the Medal of Freedom awarded to former U.S. President George W. Bush said that Zapata died and lived in one of the concentration camps of the Castro regime. Regime which, in turn, he said, has been an official policy of genocide planned on two groups of people: political opponents and people of the black race.

"Zapata Tamayo had to suffer a double portion of this cruel discrimination for his humanistic ideas and being a person of the black race," Biscet who, in his labor as dissident work.was noted for his opposition to abortion, specifically with respect how disproportionately it is performed in Cuba.

Biscet blamed the government of Raúl Castro for Zapata's death, saying that since his arrival in prison, Zapata suffered the most cruel treatment, abuse and torture that led to a hunger strike until death.

"The government of Raúl Castro Poured all their hatred, racial discrimination and torture till his death. The death is just extra judicial murder," said Biscet. "Even after such lamentable event they continued by humiliating him with false testimonies."

The human rights activist, concluded that "imperialism Castro - Communist, murdered Orlando Zapata Tamayo.

"I just need to repeat to the Castro brothers with exclamation points: "murderers, murderers, murderers" reaffirmed Biscet.

Cuban dissident journalist Guillermo Fariñas has now been transferred to a hospital in the province of Santa Clara, Cuba, for loosing consciousness, after holding a hunger and thirst for eight days in protest over the death of prisoner of conscience Orlando Zapata.

Licet Zamora, spokesman for the opposition, reported that Fariñas was transferred to the Provincial Hospital near Castro Asnlado Miliary 10.45 (16.45 Peninsular Time) after being knocked unconscious while the doctor Ismael Iglesias was performing a general checkup.

Fariñas was on his eighth day of hunger and thirst strike and "was pretty dehydrated and had very low blood pressure, reported the spokesperson, recalling that two days ago his doctor had said that in 48 hours the body of independent journalist could go into a Coma.

Eighth Cuban political prisoner on hunger strike

Próspero Gaínza Agüero is the eighth Cuban political prisoner reported to have started a hunger strike, since the death last week of political prisoner Orlando Zapata Tamayo. Gaínza started his protest on Feb. 24, one day after Zapata succumbed to the effects of an 82-day hunger strike, according to Radio Martí.

Gaínza, imprisoned since the "black spring" of 2003, is protesting Zapata's death and demanding better treatment for political prisoners. He is currently being held at the Cuba Sí prison in Holguín province in eastern Cuba.

A day after Gaínza, who is serving a 20-year sentence, started his hunger strike, guards arbitrarily searched his cell, ostensibly looking for clues as to who had distributed in in the prison written information about Zapata's death, according to the Radio Martí report.

First I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, on behalf of the Sigler Amaya family, for what you are doing for my brother Ariel and the other prisoners of conscience.

I Communicated by telephone on Sunday, about 10 pm, with my other brother there in Cuba, Juan Francisco Sigler Amaya. My family was summoned 15 days ago by the medical board of Julio Diaz Rehabilitation Hospital in Havana, where my brother Ariel Sigler Amaya has remained for over five months. On Saturday 27 February there were 5 members of our family there.

They explained about the seriousness of Ariel's condition. It is getting worse by the day. He is expelling large amounts of blood from his rectum due to the advanced state of his hemorrhoids. He is coughing up pieces of putrid green and yellow with a lot of stench; he has intense pain in his throat, digestive tract, esophagus and stomach; intense suffering and great pain in the pelvis and bladder when he urinates (the urine has a strong stench), he suffers from dizziness, severe headaches, he is very pale yellow, weak, his legs are blackened and dried and he remains bed ridden with a device around the neck called "Minerva".

According to doctors they can not intervene surgically for the hemorrhoids or tonsillitis in his throat, because he would not survive in his state of weakness and severity.

Ariel says that he will use any resources he deems appropriate to end this situation. He said that he will not attempt to end his life via a possible suicide. The family got the message and advised him not to go an a hunger strike, since he would not last a week.

The security agents of the state who participated in this meeting-captains, lieutenant colonels and colonels of the highest-ranking Cuban government, were very disturbed by violent on the globally recognized information on the case of Ariel. They stated in a threatening manner that if the United States with all the rockets and missiles, have not been able to intimidate them, our family was not going to do it. The discussion became so heated that it almost resorted going to blows, all led by the renowned and infamous terrorist leader, Lt. Col. Tamayo.

Brothers: Please, ask for assistance, support and solidarity to prevent further human beings dying in Cuba because of a dictatorship than would sacrifice all Cubans to stay just one more day in power.

It is time to ask urgently for the arrest of Fidel, Raúl Castro, and Ramiro Valdes, by international recognized organizations in these cases of crimes against humanity.

31 Patients Died from Hipothermia in a Psichiatric Hospital in Havana-Photos made it out of Cuba!

Last January dozens of psychiatric patients died from Hypothermia and starvation in Havana's state run psych hospital.

The Cuban government admitted through their toilet newspaper Granma to 26 deaths.

Today I received an email letting me know that photographs of the state of the patients at the time of death had made it out of Cuba.

It is so shameful to see this happening in the mother land and I am so very sad for these patients deplorable conditions that lead to their death.

"At least 20 patients in a Cuban mental hospital died from hypothermia during the cold snap this week, said human rights activist Elizardo Sánchez, who branded it a case of ``criminal negligence by a government characterized by its general inefficiency.''

Sánchez said Thursday he had reliable reports of 20 deaths, but that some doctors had told him the real number of deaths at the hospital, popularly known as Mazorra, was 24 or 26. Cuban authorities have made no public comment on the case, Sánchez said, but some hospital staffers have reportedly been detained. ``It looks like they want to blame some doctors or paramedics,'' he added. The deaths occurred overnight from Monday to Tuesday, when the temperatures near the Havana Psychiatric Hospital dropped to 38.6 degrees, a bitter cold for tropical Cuba, said Sánchez, who heads the Cuban Commission for Human Rights and National Reconciliation".
